For over two centuries, this bewitching diplomatic dwelling, the Tangier American Legation, a testament of the US, has stood proudly, a symbol of the magical connection between the US and the Kingdom of Morocco. Bestowed upon the U.S. by the Sultan Moulay Suliman in 1821, the grand edifice was a gift intended for diplomatic purposes. For 140 entrancing years, it functioned as a magical realm for the U.S. to conduct their diplomatic affairs. As time passed, the enchanted structure grew, incorporating neighboring houses and expanding its embrace. Today, it flourishes as a cultural center, museum, and library, with a captivating focus on the study of the Arabic language. Recognizing the importance of the site, it was inscribed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1981, and the following year, it was granted the distinction of a National Historic Landmark.
