The Porta Garibaldi, previously known as the Porta Comasina, is a city gate located in Milan, Italy. Originally commissioned by the Austrian Empire, it was rebuilt under the guidance of Italian architect Giacomo Moraglia from 1826 to 1828. The gate was erected to commemorate the visit of Emperor Francis I of Austria in 1825 and was named for Giovan Battista Garibaldi in 1860. Despite its less than monumental proportions, the Doric-style gate remains an iconic symbol of Milan's past. Visitors can still see this historical landmark today.
