The burial site of the rulers of Derbent — Esfendiyar is located 35 meters south of the Kala-Kapa gates by the staircase leading to the observation deck. The burials themselves have not been preserved; only the tombstones have survived to the present day. One of the tombstones remains 5 meters east of the round observation platform. The tombstone of Emir Esfendiyar was moved from the burial site to the territory of the Naryn-Kala citadel. The sarcophagus is covered with a verse from the Quran and text in Arabic and Persian, which states: "Emir Esfendiyar, son of Hamza-aga, who was slain by enemies along with twenty assistants in the year 886 of the Hijra."
