The Campus Capriole: A Statuesque Siren of Seattle

The Campus Capriole: A Statuesque Siren of Seattle

Towering above the Space Needle, on the 15th Avenue pedestrian bridge of the university, a timeless dance queen captivates passersby with her enigmatic flat hat and flair. Is she a public treasure, a hidden museum piece, or perhaps both? Seattle's street art scene has grown tight-lipped over this one.

Swaying since 1971, this sculptural ballerina, known as Dancing with Flair, gracefully calls the University home. She's taken quite the limelight from students, tourists, and yes, even those ironic Vulcan-lovers. Designed by the artistic hand of Eleanor Henry Reed, her identity remains a subject of debate: Girl with Flat Hat or a precious find from the Seattle Art Museum. The Washington Public Art Administration holds on tight to her, keeping whatever's beneath that coy cap a well-guarded secret.
