Take a step back in time with a visit to the Prospect Avenue Historic Hangout, sprawled across a snazzy 300-acre between the west side of Hartford and the east side of West Hartford, Connecticut. This swanky district, featuring houses mainly built between 1880 and 1930, can be traced back to the Goodwin family, a crew of characters in their time. The district showcases a WOW-worthy array of architectural styles and engineering wonders, offering a unique glimpse into bygone days.
For the history enthusiasts, don't miss the Connecticut Governor's Residence – a contributing building within the district. This Georgian Revival mansion, built in 1908 by Andrews, Jacques, and Rantoul of Boston, received a facelift in 1916. The district is bursting with 87 examples of Georgian Revival architecture, 55 examples of Tudor Revival architecture, a few in the French Norman Chateau style, and lone representations in the Craftsman and Prairie Style.
