The Enchanting Palacio de Barradas in Guadix: A Mudéjar Gem

The Palacio de los Marqueses de Peñaflor, also known as the Palacio de los Pérez de Barradas or La Casa de Barradas, is a historic building located in the municipality of Guadix, in the province of Granada (Andalucia). Since 1982, the palacio has been protected as a Bien de Interés Cultural.

Constructed in the 16th century, the palacio underwent various works and transformations in the 18th century. In its early days, the palacio was the property of the Marqueses de Cortes y Graena, a family of noble origin who settled in Guadix after the Castilian conquest of the region.

The palacio, situated within the historic center of the municipality, rests on the eastern wall of the city, with its main façade facing Calle Barradas and the other facing Plaza de Santiago. The interior features Mudéjar-style woodwork that covers the salons, while the exterior is sober and has a single access door and two square towers on either side. Recently, the ownership of the palacio has been ceded to the Ayuntamiento de Guadix to establish a museum within its premises.
