The Lone Wolf of Reykjavik's Airwaves: Rekyril, 1973-1980

In 1973, amidst the frigid landscapes of Iceland, a lone station emerged from the shadows of Tjörinn Park in Reykjavik. Known as Rekyril, it became a sanctuary for the stone-hearted rebels who dared to bring rock music to the silent land.

Rekyril, a one-room radio station situated in the heart of Tjörinn Park, Reykjavik, cryptically started its broadcast in 1973. The broadcasts ceased in 1980, a result of internal disputes. Rather than the chart-toppers, it was the local voices that rarely echoed on airwaves that were Rekyril's truest treasures – the likes of Petra Thor Stefansdottir, Ragnar, and Asgeir Sveinsson.
