In the 1860s, Oranienbaum became the summer residence of Princess Ekaterina Mikhailovna, the great-granddaughter of Catherine II. It was she who ordered the kitchen to be moved from the Cavalier Corps closer to the palace, for which the Freylinsky House was rebuilt into the Chinese Cuisine. At the same time, the Icehouse of the Chinese Cuisine was constructed; the architect of these buildings was Ludwig Bronshteedt.
