Information and Exhibition Center of PSU

Krasnaya St., 40, Penza, Penza Oblast, Russia, 440026

Two mosaic panels on the walls of the information and exhibition center of Penza State University

The theme of the panels on the walls of the information and exhibition center of PSU (40 Krasnaya St.) is dedicated to a historic event – the relocation of the Odessa Industrial Institute to Penza on November 1, 1943. It was on its basis that the predecessor of the current PSU was founded.

Fighting is ongoing, soldiers are going to the front, women have replaced them at the machines, and in the "newborn" industrial institute, the first students, still wearing their gymnasterkas, are attending lectures by a professor.

Opposite is another panel: friends in 1971 see off Viktor Ivanovich Patsayev, a graduate of the "Polytechnic," on a space flight. Three cosmonauts from this expedition never returned…

The sketches for the panels were drawn by members of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR, Eduard Iodynis and Lidia Skorobogatova – they specifically made portrait sketches from the university’s students and postgraduates. The mosaic was laid by E. Osipov and V. Maksimov. The work was completed by 1977.
