In Milan's public gardens, a metal sculpture by Ivan Meštrović stands near the planetarium. The monument to Ruggero Giuseppe Boscovich was donated to the city by Croatia in 1992 and was inaugurated on 13 February 2017.
The statue shows Ruggero Giuseppe Boscovich seated with a globe in his arms, upon which his left arm rests. He was born in Ragusa, Dalmatia, in 1711 to a wealthy merchant from Herzegovina and a mother of Italian descent. He later lived in Milan until 1787.
The inscription on the monument identifies him as a physicist, mathematician, astronomer, philosopher, diplomat, and poet. It commemorates his life which spanned the years 1711 to 1787.
