Knutstorps Castle

In Scania, Sweden, Knutstorp Castle is where two famous astronomers, Tycho Brahe and Sophia Brahe, were born, setting the stage for groundbreaking scientific discoveries.

Knutstorp Castle, a manor from the 14th century, is a significant piece of Scania's rich history. Completed in 1551 by Otte Brahe and his wife Beate Clausdatter Bille, the castle was home to two notable scientists: Tycho Brahe and Sophia Brahe. Tycho, born in 1546, was a renowned astronomer whose work laid the foundation for the field. Sophia, born in 1556, was the first woman to publish astronomical observations. Owned by the Danish Brahe family until 1663, the castle has been in the Wachtmeister family since 1771. The Ring Knutstorp racetrack, named after the castle, still stands today, offering a glimpse into its storied past.
