Secrets of Mount Rtan: A Wonder of Nature or a Man-Made Pyramid?

In Central Serbia, a couple of hundred kilometers from Belgrade, lies the Rtanj mountain. The height of the mountain reaches one and a half kilometers. It is part of the Carpathian mountain system, located between the Serbian towns of Boljevac and Sokobanja. Rtanj mountain is shrouded in myths, legends, and mysterious stories. The locals often call it the "Serbian pyramid."

Serbia has many places rich with incredible legends and traditions. Perhaps the most mystical place is located 200 km east of Belgrade and is called Rtanj Mountain — the Serbian Pyramid.

The first thing that catches the eye is the perfect geometric shapes of this mysterious mountain, which would delight any mathematician — it is precisely because of its perfect proportions that it earned the "status" of a pyramid. The proportions of the mountain are astonishing, and calculating them, as they say, is a true pleasure for a mathematician: everything is interconnected, nothing is accidental. The longest edge of the "pyramid," which stretches northward, is 3 kilometers long, the southwest edge is 1.5 km, and the southeast edge is 0.75 km. The ratio of lengths is 4:2:1. The same ratio is observed in some other proportions of the pyramid. There is a similarity in parameters between Rtanj, the Moon Pyramid in Mexico, and the Great Pyramid of Giza. Some attribute them to constructions of the same ancient civilization.

Such clear symmetry is not typical of nature, so there are many legends about its man-made or divine origin, associating it with ancient sacred and holy rites. Some legends say that Rtanj was built by ancient giants. Other legends say the mountain was built by gods who descended from the heavens. This place has always been considered sacred and holy. Many legends are dedicated to gold, the god Ra, and giants who lived on the mountain. Some see a resemblance between the mountain and the Moon Pyramid in Mexico and the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt, attributing them to constructions of the same ancient extraterrestrial civilization.

An amazing fact is that in the upper third of Rtanj, trees do not grow, unlike most other mountains of comparable height: only grasses grow (including the famous Rtanj tea — from which a healing, energizing, and tasty drink is made) and other low-growing plants. As for the trees in the "forested" part of the mountain — many of them are noticeably bent and deformed. Surely there is a reason for that as well.

There are many more facts, and it is said that many of them are documented, but for us, they remain in the category of "people say." For example, according to some sources, in ancient times Roman legionnaires came to Rtanj Mountain because it was believed that wounds received in battles healed faster there.

According to another legend, long ago there was a wizard’s castle on Rtanj with treasures buried inside the mountain. It is known that before World War II there was a mine on the mountain, owned by Julius Minch. At the summit, there was a chapel, of which only ruins remain now.

The chapel was built in 1936 by Greta Minch, Julius’s wife, in honor of her deceased husband. About 1,000 workers were involved in the construction. But just 30 years later, treasure hunters blew up the chapel because, according to legend, a huge treasure was buried under the building.

There is a legend that Rtanj Mountain was a kind of center of the Earth, and the god Ra himself lived here. He fell in love with a beautiful Illyrian woman who was the ruler of these lands and helped her conquer many territories. When her troops reached Egypt, she fell in love with the local pharaoh and left Ra. From the pangs of jealousy, Ra almost shattered into pieces, and the beautiful Illyrian woman returned to him. To win her back, the pharaoh came to Rtanj and brought with him many dangerous snakes. The Illyrian woman died from the bite of one of the snakes. She was buried in the Rtanj pyramid, and 13 species of snakes remain on Rtanj, the most dangerous of which is green and resembles a cobra.

During World War II, this Serbian mountain attracted the interest of members of the German secret organization "Ahnenerbe" — they thoroughly studied Rtanj.

Science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke also called Rtanj Mountain "the navel of the world," holding some special energy. There are claims that in the area of the mountain there is "magnetic and gravitational deviation."

In connection with predictions about the impending apocalypse, which supposedly was to occur on December 21, 2012, many people who believed that Rtanj Mountain emits a special mystical energy planned to save themselves from the "end of the world" at Rtanj.

For a long time, people have felt the unusual, cosmic energy of this place, observing many unexplained phenomena in the area. Many have seen UFOs, glowing orbs, experienced strange sensations, heard unusual sounds, and airplanes sometimes disappeared from radar screens while flying over the mountain.

Electromagnetic radiation of the mountain has been repeatedly measured by local scientist-activists, and the results have always been intriguing.

At the foot of the mountain is a settlement with the same name — Rtanj, whose residents report frequent malfunctions of electrical appliances in their homes.
