The Parade Field, or Parade Place, was created at the end of the Triple Linden Alley according to a design by V. Brenn. It was intended for military maneuvers conducted by Paul I. After his death, this picturesque area was transformed into a park between 1803 and 1813 by the master Gonzago.
A pond appeared here, with an island in the center named Princess Liven Island, in honor of Maria Feodorovna’s friend and the governess of the grand duchesses, Charlotte Karlovna Liven.
