The Stable Corps was built between 1818 and 1822 in the Neoclassical style by architect Carlo Rossi. The building is a two-story horseshoe-shaped structure with two inner courtyards, housing the Stables and the Riding Hall. The corps also included carriage sheds and living quarters. The main facade, facing the western part of Maslyany Meadow, is decorated with a through Doric colonnade. The building consists of the main facade with a propylaea connecting two symmetrical wings. These wings housed the adjutant wing and the empress’s retinue. The rest of the building accommodated stable officers, chamber Cossacks, and grooms. In the semicircular part of the building, grain and hay were stored, and carriages and horse stalls were located. Thus, the Stable Corps consisted of residential and utility spaces and was constructed as a beautiful decorative ensemble, not fully corresponding to its direct purpose. Both courtyards of the Stable Corps are paved with cobblestones, and lanterns designed by K.I. Rossi stand along the walls inside. In the 1950s–60s, the northern facade of the Stable Corps was rebuilt for industrial needs, which distorted the building’s appearance.
The unique Stable Corps building is a rare example of such a structure that has survived to this day.
