Nestled amongst the green hills of Charlemont, Massachusetts, you'll find Mohawk Park, adorned with the colossal sculpture of 'Hail to the Sunrise'. This monumental bronze figure stands tall along Massachusetts Route 2, more famously known as the Mohawk Trail. Unveiled by the peculiar Improved Order of Red Men on October 1, 1932, it attracted a crowd of 2,000 curious onlookers - as eccentric as Edward Scissorhands' grand opening. This statue honors the Mohawk Indian, depicting a heroic warrior atop a granite pedestal, inviting the sunrise with his arms outstretched.
The granite tablet below, crafted like an arrowhead, carries the inscription: 'Hail to the Sunrise - In Memory of the Mohawk Indian'. A stroll through the park will reveal the Max Eninger Memorial Pool, winding around the statue and bearing memorial inscriptions by various Improved Order tribes and councils, adding another intriguing layer to this historical labyrinth.
