The Castle of Penàguila, located in Penaguila, Spain, is a red-walled fortress. The castle, which is thought to have a precursor from the 11th century, was built during the Almohad period in the 12th century. It was the center of the Muslim aljama and was later conquered by Christians in 1245. However, it was recaptured by the Muslims twice more before the end of the 13th century. Over the centuries, the castle lost its military function and was abandoned. Today, it stands as a monument of Spain's past and a tourist attraction.
