A Towerin' Texan Testimony: The Texas Heroes Monument in Galveston

Head down to Galveston, Texas, and you'll come across a towering monument, a heartfelt homage to the heroes of the Lone Star State's independence. But what makes this stone sentinel stand out?

Nestled at the crossroads of Broadway and Rosenberg Avenue in the heart of Galveston, Texas, you'll find a colossal commemoration known as the Texas Heroes Monument. This towering tribute was the brainchild of Henry Rosenberg, a high-rolling banker, who desired to honor the courageous men who took a stand for Texas independence. The monument was crafted with pride by New England Granite Works, and with granite quarried in Concord, New Hampshire, the statue was sculpted by Louis Amateis.

At the heart of this monument, stands the figure of Victory, standing tall at 22 feet, her sheathed sword adorned with roses in one hand, and an outstretched right hand displaying a crown of laurels in the other. The base of this monument, a whopping 34 feet in diameter, culminates in four columns, each soaring 50 feet high. These columns are etched with the virtues the Texas heroes embodied: Patriotism, Honor, Devotion, and Courage.
