Vandalism attempt and failed theft of heavily adorned Picasso Statue in 2013

The Picasso Statue, a bronze sculpture of the Spanish artist sitting on a marble bench, is located in Málaga, Spain. It was unveiled in December 2008 and is situated in Plaza de la Merced, in the city center, right in front of his birthplace, which houses the Picasso Foundation. The statue was adorned extensively for the 2009 Noche en Blanca. In April 2013, the statue was vandalized and an attempt was made to steal it. The vandals managed to remove the statue from its bench but could not transport it far due to its weight. The statue was later found and replaced by corporation workers.
