Operation: Roof-Linked Annex

Operation: Roof-Linked Annex

A 1915 Oregon farmhouse underwent a high-level architectural overhaul that literally joined two buildings together.

The Aloha Farmhouse sits in Aloha, Oregon, currently serving as a Craftsman-inspired historical landmark on the National Register. This one-story base of operations was established back in 1915, though it remained structurally stagnant until a major upgrade was ordered in 1944.

Architect Pietro Belluschi took command of the renovation in 1944 to execute a tactical maneuver. He managed to link the eastern section, which functioned as nothing more than a storage shed, to the main headquarters by fusing them via the roof. The man stayed on mission to conduct a secondary round of modifications in 1946.

By 1948, the Belluschis completed their tour of duty and sold the property. The site saw further structural movements in 1980 when a barn was relocated from a neighboring territory and retrofitted with a second-story office.
