Al-Khaburah Castle is located in the Al-Khaburah wilayat, less than two kilometers from the center of Sohar. In the past, it served as a judicial building with impressive walls made of clay bricks, measuring 53 meters in length and 24 meters in width. The architectural layout includes various rooms intended for housing guards and visitors, a special room for storing provisions and weapons, as well as two luxurious rooms for the governor.
The castle boasts two separate towers: one round with a diameter of 7.5 meters, located in the southeast corner, and another rectangular tower of equal width occupying the opposite corner. The main gates of the fortress are located on its northern flank, flanked by two historic cannons.
Arabic calligraphy lessons are held in the castle under the guidance of experts.
Al-Batina is considered the green belt of Oman, as most of the country’s fresh produce is harvested on plantations in this area. The coastal towns are known for their fishing industries and endless sandy beaches. Sohar, the ancient capital of Oman, is located in this region and is rumored to be the hometown of the legendary Sinbad the Sailor. Today, the city is one of the largest in the sultanate, hosting one of the region’s largest ports and many of the country’s key industries.
