A Timeless remnant in the heart of our thriving City

In the pulsating heart of Washington D.C, a silent landmark casts an enchanting spell, a vestige of history, witness to the city's evolution for over a century.

In the heart of our city, a story waits to be shared. This silent sentinel, the Lockkeeper's House, dating back to 1837, has stood its ground near the National Mall, concealing its age with grace. Once home to the canal lock keeper, a man who poured his warmth into his duties, this historical edifice now serves to educate as a crucial part of Constitution Gardens' initial phase of renovation. Originally situated where the C & O Canal Extension merged with the Potomac River, our beloved Lockkeeper's House, was, in October of 2017, movingly relocated 36 feet south and 35 feet west. Now standing on 17th Street and Constitution Avenue, it welcomes its visitors with quiet pride, serving as a silent testimony to the city's resilience and ability to evolve, as echoes of history reverberate through its walls.
