Situated at the end of Cuesta de Moyano, stands a monument to Pío Baroja, sculpted by artist Federico Coullaut-Valera. The sculpture depicts Baroja in clothing that characterized him - a gabán, bufanda, and boina - with his hands crossed in front in an attitude of rest.
The local community agreed upon its creation in 1978, and it was unveiled on 17 de marzo de 1980, with the assistance of the author's nephews and heirs, the intellectuals Julio and Pío Caro Baroja, and the then mayor of Madrid, Enrique Tierno Galván. The sculpture cost 1,100,000 pesetas, with 1,344,055 pesetas for the pedestal, designed by the municipal architect Joaquín Roldán.
While various locations were considered, the statue was placed at the end of Cuesta de Moyano on 19 de abril de 2007, near the crossing with the street of Alfonso XII. This site is near the location of a book fair, for which Baroja was one of the signatories of a request sent to the Ayuntamiento de Madrid in 1925.
