Big Apple's Alice: A Jolly Salute to a Timeless Tale

Join Alice, the White Rabbit, Mad Hatter, and the Cheshire Cat as they seize control of Central Park!

New York City's bronze Wonderland sculpture, known as York City's Alice, nods to Lewis Carroll's timeless story, right smack in the center of Central Park. Created by José de Creeft in 1959, it stands proudly on the north side of Conservatory Water around 74th Street. It showcases Alice, the Mad Hatter, White Rabbit, and the Cheshire Cat, each frozen in their own wacky, entertaining seconds. Some say the Alice resembles Creeft's very own daughter, Donna, while some see the Mad Hatter's likeness in the statue's commissioner, George Delacorte.

The statue's base is adorned with engravings from ' Jabberwocky ' and six plaques depicting Alice's favorite moments. Perhaps you'll recognize some TV scenes showcasing our bronze friends, but this drama has its share of controversy – folks can't seem to agree if the statue symbolizes the White Rabbit or the March Hare. Regardless, this shared journey is here to bring Alice's story to life, for every new generation. So, why don't you wander on over to Central Park and meet the statue for yourself?
