Situated in the heart of Pont-Saint-Esprit, France, the Museum of Sacred Art of Gard, established in 1995, rests cosily within the Maison des Chevaliers – a fortress from the 12th century. Towering at a majestic 15 meters, the building boasts a rectangular tower, lending it an air of silent sentinel protecting the town. In the 14th century, the Piolenc family, with their eye for impressing, made alterations to the structure, one room transforming into a courtroom and a playground for the royal court, as well as private use. This room was later extended by Guillaume de Piolenc in 1450, who yearned for grandeur, creating two additional halls with vibrant, star-filled ceilings. Through the ravages of time, this medieval mansion has managed to preserve its initial charm, not as a well-known treasure, but as a hidden one, waiting to be discovered by the inquisitive.
