A Majestic Marble Monument: The Crane Company Building in The Windy City

Nestled in the heart of Chicago, this compelling structure, constructed in 1912, once served as the vibrant hub for a company that etched its essence into the very soul of the city and beyond.

The Crane Company Building, situated at 836 S. Michigan Ave, is a beacon of architectural marvel, designed by Holabird & Roche in 1912, in the Classical Revival style. The building's exterior radiates with marble facades gracing the first and second floors, adorned with more marble on the second and red brick from the fourth to the eleventh. The twelfth floor exudes a magical charm, adorned with terra cotta decor and Crane Company valves. For nearly half a century, from 1912 to 1960, The Crane Company, a distinguished manufacturer of plumbing and heating equipment, found joy and success in this stately dwelling. Later, celebrating a new purpose, it was acknowledged as a residence and was granted an honorable place in the National Register of Historic Places on January 28, 2002.
