Built in the mid-1800s, possibly in 1863 or 1864, Cannon Branch Fort was a little Union army darling, purpose-built to safeguard critical railways. It stood as a strategic point during the Civil War, playing a crucial role in the larger symphony of battles and soldiers. Fast-forward to 1999, and it found a new role as a recognized remnant of history, being listed on the National Register of Historic Places. However, these days it's a bit hard to spot its other accomplishments among the vines and tall grass. It now stands silent, a faint echo of its boisterous past.
