Elsa Borg is often referred to as the 'Angel of Vita Bergen' and the 'Queen of Vita Bergen', considered Stockholm's first professional social worker. Established in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, she opened Bibelkvinnohemmet, or Bible Home for Women, in the deprived neighborhood of Vita Bergen, tackling issues such as poverty, homelessness, prostitution, and alcoholism among women and children. Her work was funded through private donations and sewing workshops, known as *systugor*, which educated women in practical skills and self-sufficiency. This initiative specifically targeted vulnerable populations, offering aid and rehabilitation to the homeless, prostitutes, criminals, and alcoholics through protective measures and home visits by trained 'bible women'.
