The writer is buried in the cemetery in the village of Clarens near Montreux, on the shore of Lake Geneva.

In 1977, Nabokov, engrossed in butterfly catching on a high mountain slope, fell and sustained serious bruises that caused a general deterioration in his health. In the hospital, the writer continued working on his last novel, Laura and Her Original, which remained unfinished. Vladimir Vladimirovich Nabokov died on July 2, 1977, from a lung infection.
The writer is buried in the cemetery of the village of Clarens near Montreux, on the shore of Lake Geneva. In his will, he asked his wife to burn the manuscript of the unfinished novel, but neither Vera Evseevna nor their son Dmitry did so. In 2009, the novel Laura and Her Original was published in both English and Russian.
