An Epic Tribute to an Ancient Roman, Cincinnatus, in Ohio's Cincinnati

Step foot in Cincinnati, Ohio, and you'll spot a monstrous 37-footer paying homage to an old-school Roman chap named Cincinnatus, splashed across the Brotherhood Building at the crossroads of Central Parkway and Vine Street. This 1983 brainchild of Richard Haas was cooked up to honor the Kroger Company's 100-year run.

Cincinnati, the Ohio town with a heart as big as the 37-foot mural on the Brotherhood Building, where Central Parkway meets Vine Street. This towering tribute, dubbed 'Homage to Cincinnatus', was painted by Richard Haas in 1983. You read that right! It's a celebration of Cincinnatus, a Roman citizen who strutted the stage before Cincinnati made it into history's cool kid squad. As a Consul twice – the first time in 460 BC – he saved Rome from a Celtic invasion. His victory was so colossal, he turned his back on politics and went back to farming. Talk about character! This mural in Cincinnati is a shout-out to just such an unassuming, role-model hero.
