Octagonalland: Inside Katarina Church, the Eight-Sided Tower of Transformations

Katarina Church, a edifice less acclaimed for its height, age or beauty, boasts an octagonal shape. Hidden in Katarina-Sofia, its saga weaves with the neighborhood's metamorphosis. Rooted in the 17th century, construction began under Jean de la Vallée for the Royal Family, in honor of Catherine, the king's mother. One of the church's salient features, its eight-sided tower, was rebuilt following a fire in 1723. This exceptional structure, rare for a working-class district in those days, has since become the emblem of the church and the borough.
