Smalspårig växel: The Steel Railway Switch at Smedsudden

In the tranquil charm of Smedsudden, Stockholm, a captivating sculpture ascends - Inga Bagge's 'Smalspårig växel', a 1989 steel creation that artfully portrays a railway switch reaching skyward.

In the heart of Kungsholmen, Stockholm, stands the steel sculpture 'Smalspårig växel', a creation of artist Inga Bagge, who died in 1988. The artwork stands approximately four meters high and portrays a railway switch for narrow gauge with the branch pointing upwards.

Located next to Smedsuddsbadet, the sculpture was a gift from Eva Bonniers donationsnämnd. It stands as a permanent fixture of the Smedsudden area, which also houses the sculpture Fiskfossil by Ebba Hedqvist, erected in the same year, 1989.

The piece is made of steel and remains a notable point of interest for those visiting the waterfront. It captures the industrial form of a right-hand switch in its original narrow-gauge configuration.
