The Silent, Haughty Residue: Beckley Mill

Dip back in time for a peek at the Beckley Mill, a single, densely-silent titan looming above train tracks and mounds of discard, a remainder from a ghost town's golden age.

In the heart of a town as quiet as a 19th-century mill, you'll find the Beckley Mill Site. It could creak with stories about old Alfred Beckley, the town founder dear to all. But it's lost its voice, now just a silent memento. With milling days scarce as hens' teeth, it shut down on the cusp of the 20th century. Subjected to vandalism, it's discovered a peculiar sort of life amidst the tracks and the trash. Still towering, it's still deteriorating, welcoming the curious visitors. In 2017, it found new breath, securing a spot on the National Register of Historic Places.
