Batea is known for its fort, Fort d'en Blario. Constructed between August 1936 and the first months of 1937 by militia of the CNT and FAI, it is located in Batea, part of the Tarragona Province, Spain. The fort was part of a line of fortifications known as Los Algars, and was constructed under the guise of providing artillery cover to the complex defensive systems of Batea, Maella, and the positions of La Pobla. The fort was also designed to allow for a parallel line of fortified infrastructure along the rivers Cinca and Algars to halt the enemy in case the Aragon front was breached. Currently, the Centre d'Interpretació Hospitals de Sang is located there, but visitors can no longer visit the field hospitals from 1936-39 that Batea was known for during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939).
