Situated in Rudamina, Lithuania, the Iron Age hillfort, known as Papiškių piliakalnis, lies near former farms and is located on the right bank of a small river. In 1983, archaeologist Elena Grigalavičienė made a significant discovery: a 1.5 square meter plot containing 30-50 cm of cultural layer with broken ceramics, which revealed the existence of this ancient hillfort. However, the Papiškių piliakalnis has suffered damage, including the excavation of a 19x5 meter platform from its southeast part in 1983 and further damage in 1987. The cultural heritage site covering an area of 45,000 square meters, and the visual protection zone spans 1,283,000 square meters, is protected by a Lithuanian government declaration on cultural heritage – 1998-05-19.
