These impressive statues, marvels of craftsmanship, represent the leaders of the Ilergets, Indibil as the head and Mandoni as his lieutenant. They defended Lleida valiantly against both the Romans and Carthaginians during the Second Punic War. Their tale of bravery is retold through the annual carnival days, when the statue undergoes a metamorphosis, temporarily hiding its grandeur. During the Aplec del Caragol, the statue takes on the guise of a mushroom vendor, adding a unique twist to its story.
