Nestled in the lush valley, just north of Valencia del Ventoso, lies the enigmatic ruins of Cañaveral Castle. This structure, for a brief span in the 15th century, was under the ownership of the Knights Templar, disbanded by the Pope in 1312. Subsequently, it was part of the Señorío de Feria during the 15th century, and for a short period, the Order of Santiago also claimed it. Unraveling the lineage, the belief is that Juan Beltrán de Guevara, Archbishop of Salerno, hails from the ruins. However, this assertion encounters objections by Oreitia, within the province of Álava. Remnants of the structure reveal the fundamentals and remnants of two adjoining walls, almost concealed by vegetation, among the ruins. The most conspicuous aspect is a prismatic construction, which was an integral part of the Torre del Homenaje.
