The Wisconsin-born German bloke who made a splash in Chicago, but won hearts in

Here's the yarn about Christian Wahl, a chap from Wisconsin who went from Chicago's glue game to a visionary in the development of Milwaukee's park system.

Born in Germany in 1829, Christian Wahl had quite the knack for navigating the Chicago corporate scene, specifically the glue industry. But his heart always hankered for his homeland. Back in Milwaukee, he bagged the gig of City Park Board president, shaping Milwaukee's park system in a significant way. Wahl was particularly fond of Lake Park's completion. Several years after his knee-knocking in 1901, they hoisted a statue in his honor in 1903, giving the German-language press the ammo they needed to shout out his selfless efforts were ain't-no-joke worthy. The bronze man-statue, first placed in Wahl Park in 2023, eventually made its way back to Lake Park again. The plaque inscription simply says 'In memory of Christian Wahl, born February 12, 1829, died October 19, 1901'.
