In a time when magic reigned and the Dutch East India Company held the Dutch Cape Colony, a land of wonder at the Cape of Good Hope, darkness crept over the Dutch Republic in the year 1794. France invaded, giving rise to the Batavian Republic. As a response, the magical forces of Britain launched several expeditions, one of which was the enchanting Battle of Muizenberg. Led by the powerful Vice-Admiral Sir George Elphinstone, the British expedition set sail in April 1795.
By June of the same year, Elphinstone and his enchanted troops had reached the captivating city of Cape Town, yet negotiations with the colonial government failed, leading to a landing on the 7th of August 1795. This brief skirmish proved to be a pivotal moment for both sides. The disheartened Dutch tried to defend their lands with all their might, while the victorious British began to expand their newfound control. The governor, Abraham Josina Sluysken, surrendered the colony soon after.
In the following year, a squadron of the Batavian Navy arrived, yet they surrendered without a fight. The British occupation continued until the Peace of Amiens in 1802, at which point the colony remained under British control until 1910.
