The Clocher Porche de Mimizan

Just to the west of the town of Mimizan, in southwest France, stands the Clocher Porche de Mimizan, a remnant of a medieval church that tells a story of a pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. Built between the first half of the 12th and the beginning of the 13th century, the Clocher Porche de Mimizan is a remnant of the church Sainte-Marie de Mimizan, which was classified as a Monument Historique in 1903. The Clocher Porche de Mimizan is home to some of the first representations of the apostles in France, including Saint James the Major, identified by the pilgrim's staff and shell. The statue of Saint James the Major is just one of the many beautiful sculptures on this church, along with statues of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, identified by their traditional attributes.
