The Church of St Barnabas

The Church of St Barnabas is a Church of England parish church in Pimlico, London. It was built in 1850, making it one of the earliest Ritualistic churches in the country. Notably, it was the first in London where all pews were free. This sets it apart and feels like a living relic, a glimpse of an older time that has somehow survived intact in the midst of modern London. It is a Grade I listed building designed by Thomas Cundy (junior) and William Butterfield. The church is worth visiting for its history and three paintings in its crypt by Charles Edgar Buckeridge. Over the years, several notable figures served the church, including W. J. E. Bennett, Alfred Gurney, John Hudson, Charles Lowder, Frederick Ouseley, Victor Shearburn, and George Ratcliffe Woodward.
