The Enchanted Sanctum of Saint Peter's, a Jewel in the Vilaflor Highlands

In a time long ago, during the bewitching 16th century, Pedro Soler and Juana de Padilla established a humble shrine, which eventually grew into the illustrious Church of Saint Peter in Vilaflor and Abona, becoming its spiritual beacon in 1568. In the years to follow, the benevolent Soler family, with their generous patronage, enriched the church with remarkable Mudéjar artesonado and breathtaking artistry, between 1615 and 1675. This was a period that also bestowed a noble doorway upon the church.

In the spellbinding year 1626, an extraordinary event took place within this sanctuary, as Santo Hermano Pedro, a future saint, was baptized in this hallowed place. Today, the church stands as a captivating monument, embodying one nave, a Latin cross blueprint with enchanting side chapels, and a symphony of intricate sculptures and vibrant paintings. The sources, however, do not speak of a lofty wooden choir elegantly suspended over the grand entrance.
