A Cosmic Wander: Stargazing in NE Portland's Holladay Park

Fancy a leisurely saunter through northeast Portland's charming Holladay Park and find yourself face to face with a cosmic shade tree? That's all courtesy of American artist Tad Savinar and Portland's generously funded Public Art Collection. Enter the Constellation Series: three celestial surprises right here in the 'Rose City'.

Hidden in the bustling heart of NE Portland, there lies a cosmic curio shop, a well-kept secret, brought to town by American artist Tad Savinar, with the generous backing of Portland's Public Art Collection. This special collection, tagged as the Constellation Series, is just one piece of a wider celestial jamboree taking Portland by storm. Today, we're taking a closer look at three interstellar artworks:

1. Constellation (a Vase of Flowers) or plain old 'Constellation', a playful vase dressed in a riot of daisies, hydrangeas, and other floral posse.

2. Constellation (Molecule) or Isolated Molecule for a Good Neighborhood, an abstract conversation starter that neatly nods to those Portland neighborhoods with a certain je ne sais quoi.

3. Constellation: Neighborhood Gardener, also known as simply 'Constellation', showcases a lady armed with gardening shears, a nod to Portland neighborhood activist Carolyn Marks Bax. The peculiar items sprinkled throughout the cosmic molecule of Constellation, chosen by the Sullivan Gulch Neighborhood Association, include a bagel, coffee mug, garden tool, house, milk carton, school, family, and trees. These works pay homage to the intricate relationship between private and public spaces, embodying the unique character and charm of Portland.
