The Hulking Bronze Fella of Downtown Portland

Ever since 1977, a gargantuan, seven-foot-tall bronze chap named Talos No. 2 has been keeping an eye on Portland, Oregon's Transit Mall. Not your typical city security guard, this colossal creation,

Standing 66 inches high and weighing a steady 400 to 700 pounds, Talos No. 2 is a far cry from your average city protector. Teamwork between James Lee Hansen and creative genius birthed this juggernaut sculpture, finding roots in the Greek mythological figure, Talos – a towering bronze guardian of the island of Crete. As a one-of-a-kind piece, Talos No. 2, under the watchful eye of the Regional Arts & Culture Council RACC, is a shining example of 1970s abstract sculpture, standing alone as the only one of its kind in Oregon.
