The Black Bridge is a crossing in the form of a dam-bridge over the Slavyanka River in Pavlovsk Park, located within the territory of the eponymous state museum-reserve. It was constructed in 1780. Its first designs were made by the architect Charles Cameron — the creator of the entire park ensemble. According to Cameron's vision, a dam was arranged under the bridge to prevent its destruction. Later, the structure was rebuilt by architect Vincenzo Brenna in 1799.
Originally, the bridge deck was wooden, and the railings were made of black stainless cast iron, which was supplied to Pavlovsk by the Izhora plant, and decorated with an openwork wrought-iron grille. Later, the railings were moved to another bridge, but the crossing retained the name Black Bridge.
The dam under the bridge consisted of a series of shields inserted into the grooves of vertical posts under the bridge. They were raised or lowered to regulate the water level in the river.
