Villa Litta Bolognini Modignani: A Tudor-inspired Italian mystery in Vedano al

Step into the Tudor-style villa, Villa Litta, that once supplied water to the Italian Royalty in the 19th century. This suburban residence in Vedano al Lambro, next to Parco di Monza, holds a captivating history.

Built between 1840 and 1848, Villa Litta Bolognini Modignani, a 19th-century suburban residence situated in Vedano al Lambro, next to Parco di Monza, was originally acquired by Count Alberto Litta in 1811 and later gifted to his nephew, Giulio Litta Visconti Arese, in 1832. The villa, designed in a neo-Gothic style reminiscent of the Tudor style by architect Luigi Clerichetti, was the home of Duchess Eugenia Attendolo Bolognini Litta until her death in 1914.

Currently, the villa's owners are descendants of the Litta family. Villa Litta's interiors were decorated by Luigi Scrosati. The villa's park is vast, bordering Parco di Monza, and features a broad central perspective alluding to the architectural complex. The Archeduk's Ditch, which once supplied water to the Royal Villa, can be found within its grounds. Enclosed by a wall, the villa's elegant entrance gate, resembling the villa itself, is located at the southwest end, overlooking Piazza Bonfanti.

The historic stables remain and are still in use. Villa Litta Bolognini Modignani was used for the exterior shots of Villa Finzi-Contini in Vittorio De Sica’s film Il Giardino dei Finzi-Contini (1970). Despite being privately owned, the villa retains its air of aristocratic splendor, standing as a testament to the Tudor influence and Royal connections of the period.
