The Enigmatic Mound of Kurmaičių: A Millennia-Old Signpost Buried in the Rubble

Enter the veil of mystery that cloaks Kurmaičių, a quaint village where the stones bear whispers of long-forgotten days. Deep within the walls of the eons-old hillfort lie secrets yet to unravel.

Nestled within the picturesque village of Kurmaičių stands the enigmatic Kurmaičių Hillfort, its registration dated back to 1972. This colossal relic, reaching a towering 12 meters, has miraculously weathered the storms of time. Sprawling across the south, west, and Padvarių deanery's neighboring district, its footprint measures around 60 meters east to west and 25 meters north to south, subtly altering the surrounding terrain by 1.5-2 meters. A concealed moat, an ancient protective trench about 1.6 meters deep and 5-8 meters wide, serves as its outer boundary, hinting at the remnants of ancient warfare. Hidden beneath this half-hectare stronghold lies the echo of a lost era, keeping its secrets entombed securely within the rocks and debris.
