Sant Martí de les Tombetes

Sant Martí de les Tombetes is a romantic church near the village of Moror in Sant Esteve de la Sarga, Pallars Jussà. But this church is not what it seems. It was part of a Roman settlement, with a necropolis and fortifications, though the original name or advocacy of Sant Martí de les Tombetes is unknown. If Sant Martí is the original name, it could suggest a settlement of French origin.

Moving east, there are remains of buildings, a large pit, and a cistern. Further east, there is a group of nine rock-carved tombs and rows of stones to see the church’s plan. At the tip of the hill, there may have been houses oriented towards the south. Since 1998, the Laboratori d'Arqueologia de la Universitat de Barcelona has been investigating the site.
