Rounala Church: Discovering a 15th-century burial site for the Sami

Rounala Church at the foot of Mount Kirkkovaara was the first church building in Torne Lappmark, constructed in the 1500s. It served as a place of worship for local Sami and, surprisingly, a burial site. Archaeological investigations have uncovered remains dating back to the 14th century, indicating a history that might be several centuries older than current records.
