A Roman era arch bridge in Alcanar, Catalonia, Spain: The last remaining

The Pont dels Estretets is a historic bridge ruin located in Alcanar, Catalonia, Spain. Historians believe it was part of the Roman road network, possibly serving as a secondary road connecting Dertosa and Valentia, or as a connection across the Riu de la Sénia to another ancient road. The bridge was built from stone and concrete, with an arch span of 3.10 meters and a walkway of 3.37 meters. Its base width was 2.50 meters. Before the 2021 floods, a significant portion of the structure stood at 3.50 meters above the ground. Unfortunately, the floods destroyed a large part of the structure. Historian Jose Matamoros suggests that the Pont dels Estretets is the only remaining Roman evidence found in the town. Originally, the bridge was used for centuries to cross the Riu de la Sénia, where the Bandit's Path from the Ebro to the Sénia passed.
