Museum in Saintes' Rue Monconseil: Hôtel Monconseil's 18th-century opulence

The Musée Dupuy-Mestreau occupies hôtel Monconseil, a 18th-century particular house originally built for the marquis Étienne Guinot de Monconseil. During the Ancien Régime, it was a residence and venue for literary salons and high-society receptions. Following its conversion into the prefecture of the department of Charente-Inférieure from 1790 to 1810, Abel Mestreau remodeled the building into a museum in 1920. Owned by the city of Saintes since 1992, the museum showcases collections of daily life in Saintonge, Aunis, and Angoumois from up until the beginning of the 20th century, featuring notable pieces including the Salle des faîences.
